Whitney Houston's funeral moved to Saturday, maybe

whitney-houston-pre-grammy-gala-2012.jpgThere are conflicting reports Tuesday (Feb. 14) morning about when and where Whitney Houston will be laid to rest this week. Per TMZ, no public memorial is happening because Houston's family doesn't want one. According to USA Today, the Houston family has not announced official funeral plans and a public memorial at Newark's Prudential Center is still a possibility. Meanwhile, US Weekly and the Associated Press report that the invitation-only funeral will be held at noon on Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark.

US Weekly's source says that Houston's mother Cissy Houston "made it clear that a funeral must be inside a church, and the Prudential Center is not an appropriate venue."

The AP also reports that Carolyn Whigham, the owner of the Whigham Funeral Home, which will be handling the Houston funeral, said Tuesday that there would be no wake or public memorial. A rep for the Newark mayor's office tells TMZ, "In compliance with the family's wishes the city is not moving forward with any public ceremony."

"They have shared her for 30 some years with the city, with the state, with the world. This is their time now for their farewell," Whigham says. "The family thanks all the fans, the friends and the media, but this time is their private time."

Houston's body arrived at the funeral home in classic diva style, transported Monday evening by Tyler Perry's private plane from Los Angeles to Teterboro Airport and then driven by a gold hearse to the Whigham Funeral Home.
