Whitney Houston dress, 'Bodyguard' earrings up for auction

whitney-houston-auction.jpgAnd so it begins. In March, a gown once owned by Whitney Houston and a pair of earrings the late singer/actress wore in "The Bodyguard" will be auctioned to the highest bidder.

Houston died on Feb. 11 from what looks like an apparent overdose, though an official cause of death is pending until toxicology test results are in.

According to auctioneer Darren Julien, more than 50 friends, family and colleauges have contacted his company, Julien's Auctions, since the singer passed away hoping to cash in on her legacy.

whitney-houston-auction-earrings.jpg"This is something that commonly happens after somebody passes ... especially someone with the status of Whitney Houston," Julien tells the New York Daily News. "Her items can increase 10, 20 even 30 times compared to their previous value prior to her death. These items become part of history really."

Julien has a total of 15 gowns that supposedly belonged to Houston, but is working to verify their authenticity before putting them on the auction block. He estimates a sale price of anywhere from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars for each one.

The dress and earrings will be part of the company's "Hollywood Legends" auction on March 31 and April 1.
