'Wet Hot American Summer' sequel is happening, we're fondling our sweaters in excitement
The cast of "Wet Hot American Summer" must've cleared their Trapper Keepers of appointments, because according to star/co-writer Michael Showalter, everyone from the cult hit 2001 movie has signed on for a sequel.Showalter told Andy Cohen on Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live" Feb. 8 that it's "absolutely" happening. "Yes, 100 percent yes," he says. "The whole gang, everyone's doing it."
A sequel has been swirling through the rumor mill since cast members like Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garofalo and David Hyde Pierce told Entertainment Weekly in a 10-year anniversary feature that they'd be on board.
"It's been discussed over the last decade in various forms and incarnations," Rudd tells EW. "I think we would all be up for doing it."
Most recently, the cast (and a few celebrity friends like Busy Phillips and David Cross) reunited for a reading at San Francisco's Sketchfest.
Showalter says that the sequel will take place during the same year as the original film (1981), which means the film will feature "40-year-olds playing 16-year-olds." We wouldn't have it any other way.
