GLAAD urges CNN to dump Roland Martin for David Beckham tweets

david-beckham-H&M-underwear.jpgWho knew that underwear commercials could cause such controversy? That's exactly what's happening after CNN contributor Roland Martin began commenting on David Beckham's H&M ads during Sunday's (Feb. 5) Super Bowl.

Following the revealing spots featuring the soccer star, Martin went to Twitter to voice his opinion.

In consecutive posts Martin writes, "Ain't no real bruhs going to H&M to buy some damn David Beckham underwear!...If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham's H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!...I bet soccer fan Piers Morgan will be in line at H&M in the morning to get his hands on David Bechman's (sic) underwear line!"

The Twittersphere immediately accused Martin of homophobia. This came to a head when GLAAD chastised the TV personality and urged CNN to dump him.

They write on Twitter, "Advocates of gay bashing have no place at CNN."

Martin replies to the organization, "Well you're clearly out of touch and clueless with what I tweeted. Way to assume, but you're way off base."

GLAAD has since started an online petition to get the cable news station to fire Martin. At the time of publication, the petition has nearly 2,000 signatures.

CNN has yet to comment on the matter.
