Dr. Seuss' 108th birthday: Celebrate with our favorite quotes
Break out your red-and-white-striped hat, and light some birthday candles: Dr. Seuss (or Theodore Geisel) would have been 108 years old this week -- Friday, March 2 to be exact -- the same day as the theatrical release of the new animated "The Lorax," featuring the voices of Zac Efron, Taylor Swift and Betty White. To help celebrate -- and get a jump on finding the perfect birthday present (what do you posthumously gift a beloved 108-year-old author anyway?) -- we've come up with a list of our 10 favorite Dr. Seuss quotes from his children's books.
In no particular order, because we really do love them all:
"Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You." ― "Happy Birthday to You!"
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." ― "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It's not." ― "The Lorax"
"From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere!" ― "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish"
"You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So ... get on your way!" ― "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"
"You'll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut." ― "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"
"ASAP. Whatever that means. It must mean, 'Act swiftly awesome pachyderm!'" ― "Horton Hears a Who!"
"My shoe is off. My foot is cold. I have a bird I like to hold." ― "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish"
"Cat, you ruined mom's dress!" "Honey, it was ruined when she bought it." ― "The Cat in the Hat"
"And the turtles, of course ... all the turtles are free, as turtles and, maybe, all creatures should be." ― "Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories"
