Chaka Khan: Clive Davis 'should've canceled party' after Whitney Houston's death

chaka-khan-whitney-houston-gi.jpgChaka Khan, who pulled out of a Grammy tribute to Whitney Houston just an hour before the show was scheduled to begin, is calling producer Clive Davis' decision to go ahead with his annual pre-Grammy party the evening of Houston's death "insanity."

Davis, Houston's mentor, hosts his pre-Grammy party every year and Houston had traveled to Los Angeles to attend. Only hours before the party was set to begin, Houston was found dead in the bathtub of her room at the Beverly Hills Hilton. The party went on as scheduled in the same hotel. In fact, Houston's body was still in the hotel when the first party-goers arrived.

"I thought that was complete insanity," Khan tells CNN's Piers Morgan. "And knowing Whitney I don't believe that she would've said, 'The show must go on.'"

Davis had been quoted saying Houston would've wanted the celebration to go on as planned.

"She's the kind of woman who would've said, 'stop everything! I'm not going to be there.'" said Khan. "I don't know what could motivate a person to have a party in the building where the person whose life he had influenced so enormously -- and whose life has been affected by hers. I don't understand how that party went on."

Khan herself didn't attend, saying she was "paralyzed" after hearing about Houston's death.
