Zooey Deschanel: Birthday girl covers Allure, says 'girls spit in my face'

Not only is Tuesday (Jan. 17) the day Zooey Deschanel's well-received sitcom, "New Girl," returns from its winter hiatus; it's also the actress' 32nd birthday. Not only that, Deschanel is also gracing the cover of February's Allure.In the accompanying article, Deschanel talks about being bullied in grade school.
"Girls spit in my face, people were so mean to me, I'd cry every day," she says.
She's come a long way since then, though, and talks about her signature style -- which has been labeled "adorkable," a term which we're kind of sick of but is -- like it or not -- now forever associated with Deschanel.
"I'm bangs and eyes," she says. "It's who I am. There have been periods when I've grown my bangs out, but I always cut them back, so it's like, why go through the trouble?"
We like her healthy take on weight, too:
"Some people around me, they're like 89 pounds," she says. "I'm not going to say I'm a big girl. I'm a very small person, but I'm a healthy weight. That might be a little weird for Hollywood."
