Too sexy for school: Colorado teen Sydney Spies' yearbook photo rejected by editors

sydney-spies-vertical.jpgA Durango, Colo. high school senior says her freedom of speech is being impinged by yearbook editors who rejected a racy photo (at left) that the 18-year-old wanted to use as her senior portrait.

Sydney Spies, whose picture of herself posing (somewhat provocatively) in a yellow miniskirt and black tube top was rejected by her peers, is still fighting, along with her mother, to have the picture run in the yearbook.

"The editors all turned their backs on me and changed their minds," Spies tells the Durango Herald. "I really do feel like they were intimidated by the principal."

Ah, a conspiracy.

Though editors point out that two years ago a similar decision was made when the yearbook opted not to run a picture of a bare-chested male student. They also say that although they won't use the photo as Spies' senior portrait, she is welcome to buy space in the yearbook and run it as an advertisement.

Child bride Courtney Stodden, who has some experience creating controversy with staged sexy pics, was unavailable for comment.
