Shakira knighted in France, receives top prize at NRJ Music Awards

Colombian superstar Shakira had a big weekend in France, as she accepted a French knighthood and then accepted top prize at the NRJ Music Awards. You know, just a typical Saturday night for her on Jan. 28.

The singer was made a Knight of the Order of the Arts and Letters for her contributions to music. She is pictured above at the ceremony alongside Frederic Mitterand, France's Minister of Culture and Communication.

It seems to be all the rage in France right now - actress Salma Hayek was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor on Jan. 3.

Later Saturday night, Shakira received the Award of Honor from the NRJ Music Awards. These awards were created in 2000 by the radio station NRJ in partnership with the television network TF1. Also honored were Adele, Rihanna and Justin Bieber.
