"Man on a Ledge"
opened Friday (Jan. 27), featuring
Sam Worthington
as what appears to be a suicidal cop and
Elizabeth Banks
as an NYPD negotiator. Banks says the movie is not all what it appears to be, however.
"One of the things that drew me to this movie is you think you're watching one thing but you're really watching something else. I love that. It's a great twist for the audience. There's actually a third twist further in," teases Banks.
The ledge part of the title is not a misnomer. The actors really were filming out of a New York City high rise, some 20+ stories above the streets of Manhattan. And star Worthington is afraid of heights, though he tells CBS News he's more afraid of the falling part.
"I'm more afraid of falling off and going splat, to be honest," says Worthington. "And when you're as high as we were, which is 200 feet, I think anybody can be nervous ... you pray you don't fall. It was coming to winter, so it was icy. A lot of wind. You try your best to stay still."
Don't worry - of course they weren't up there without safety harnesses on. But we would imagine it still to be pretty darn scary.
The movie so far has gotten mixed reviews. Critic
Tom Long
writes
that the movie "delivers the sweats it intends to deliver," but
Roger Ebert
says
it "cuts back and forth between two preposterous plot lines and uses the man on the ledge as a device to pump up the tension."
Did you see it? What did you think?
