'Red Tails': Tuskegee Airmen were 'knights of the contemporary age'
George Lucas has been working on getting his newest film "Red Tails" out for decades. The film tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first African-American military aviators in U.S. history. The film hits theaters on Friday and Lucas has released a video talking about the making of the biopic."Just like "Star Wars," it's a big action movie, lots of dogfights, lots of excitement," Lucas says. "But it's basically about a bunch of kids who went through an amazing journey, and all came out heroes. They're the knights of the contemporary age."
The Tuskegee Airmen emerged from a segregated military to become legendary heroes. Lucas told Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show" that he had trouble bringing the film into theaters even now "because it's an all-black movie. There's no major white roles in it at all."
"The story of the Tuskegee Airmen is a big story and it's an amazing story," Lucas says. We can't wait to learn all about it.
