Meryl Streep to be honored by Berlin Film Festival

Meryl-Streep.jpgThe 2011 Berlin Film Festival has chosen U.S. screen legend Meryl Streep to honor with the event's top award, the festival announced Monday (Jan. 2). Streep, 62, will be presented with the Golden Bear award on Feb. 14.

Dieter Kosslick, the director of the festival, says, "We are delighted to be able to award the Honorary Golden Bear to such a terrific artist and world star. Meryl Streep is a brilliant, versatile performer who moves with ease between dramatic and comedic roles."

The festival will also honor her by screening her latest movie, "The Iron Lady," which as a whole is getting mixed reviews, but in which all reviewers seem to agree Streep does her usual fantastic job.

The festival will also screen some older Streep movies - "Kramer vs. Kramer," for which she won her first Oscar, and "Sophie's Choice," for which she won her second Oscar, "Out of Africa," "The Bridges of Madison County" and "A Prairie Home Companion."

The festival takes place Feb. 9 through Feb. 19.
