Katherine Heigl: 'I was failing' as a mom and actress

katherine-heigl-ivillage.jpgAccording to Katherine Heigl, it is possible for a woman to have it all: to be a wife, mother and successful actress. But, the mother of three-year-old Naleigh, writes in a new blog post for iVillage, having it all comes with a price.

"I didn't realize that having it all would not look and feel as I imagined," she writes in the first of four blog posts she'll write in January.

"No matter how great my intentions, how lofty my goals, how passionate my commitment, I was failing," she continues. "I was failing my work, I was failing my daughter, I was failing my husband. I was stressed out and exhausted. I was worried and afraid it was all slipping through my fingers no matter how tight my grip. I couldn't appreciate or enjoy the moments with Naleigh because I feared they weren't enough for her and knew they weren't enough for me."

Heigl, who is married to musician Josh Kelley, then details how she stepped back from her career to be a full-time mom who did everything for Naleigh, except waking up with her ("[H]aving a nanny and a husband happy to do mornings is a huge blessing") and enjoyed it until she realized she was depriving the world of something -- her on-screen prowess.

"I needed to put this gift I've been given to perform back to use," she writes.

"The simple truth is that I love my daughter passionately and as most mothers do, think she is the smartest, funniest, prettiest child in the whole world -- but she cannot fulfill everything in me."

So, she sums up, now she works. And she misses Naleigh when she's at work. But she thinks her daughter understands. And, hey, having a husband and a nanny is a "huge blessing."
