Dolly Parton musical coming to Broadway
Dolly Parton's rather remarkable rise from poor country girl to country music superstar is now being developed as a musical for Broadway - and will be written by Ms. Parton herself. Parton tells WENN, "I'm writing my life story as a musical for Broadway. I probably won't be in it, but I'll find a way to introduce it somehow, maybe the older me."
This will not be Dolly Parton's first foray onto the Great White Way, as Parton wrote original songs for the stage adaptation of the 1980 movie "9 to 5," starring Parton alongside Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. "9 to 5: The Musical" debuted on Broadway in 2009 and while it wasn't a smash, Parton didn't let that get her down.
"'9 to 5' didn't make it on Broadway but it didn't sour me. I learned all this stuff from it," says Parton.
And if you just can't wait to see Parton up in lights, her movie "A Joyful Noise" with Queen Latifah opens Jan. 13, where Parton and Latifah play dueling choir conductors who ban together to save a gospel group.
