14 pound baby boy born in Iowa

iowa-baby.jpgHold on to your hats and/or your right to a speedy and effective epidural. On Thursday (Jan. 27) a 14 pound baby boy was born to mom Kendall Stewardson at Des Moines, Iowa's Mercy Medical Center.

Now for the shocker: Baby Asher was born without the aid of surgery and without an epidural injection for mom. She and her husband were worried that an epidural or cesarean delivery could endager either her or Asher, reports the Associated Press.

Asher's brother Judah -- now 15 months old -- weighed a little over 12 pounds at birth. Mom Kendall  was as surprised as doctors at the size of baby Asher.

"And when he came out we all thought he was smaller [than Judah] and then we put him on the scale, we were very surprised, but he`s three inches longer," Kendall tells WHO-TV.

Only one in 1,000 babies, according to the National Council of Health Statistics, weigh more than 11 pounds at birth.
