Taylor Swift's 'Hunger Games' single released: Listen to 'Safe and Sound'
It's a match made in tween heaven: Taylor Swift recording a song for the soundtrack of "The Hunger Games." Beyond the likely very large overlapping fan bases, though, Swift's "Safe and Sound" (featuring the Civil Wars) is really good in its own right. It also seems like a great fit with the fairly dark tone of the movie and book series.
"Safe and Sound" has a spare, minor-key acoustic arrangement that's far removed from the poppier tunes Swift is known for and closer to what the Civil Wars do. She sings in a breathy, halting voice that suits her quite well.
Despite the attachment to a movie that's likely to draw legions of teenagers come March, "Safe and Sound" feels like one of the most grown-up songs Swift has ever done. Take a listen for yourself:
