Mary Tyler Moore turns 75

mary-tyler-moore-getty.jpgMary Tyler Moore, the Emmy-winning actress best known for her roles in the sitcoms "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Dick Van Dyke Show," celebrates turning the big 7-5 Thursday (Dec. 29).

Moore's work on "MTM," in addition to earning her an Emmy, earned her a statue of herself. In Minneapolis, the city where "MTM" took place, there's a full-sized statue of Moore in her famed pose where she tosses her hat in the air.

While the actress is popular for her work in the TV sitcom world, she has starred in films as well. Her acting in the 1980 drama "Ordinary People" earned her an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of a mother coping with her son's death. She ended up losing out to Sissy Spacek for her work in "Coal Miner's Daughter."

Earlier this year, Moore had surgery to remove a benign tumor from the protective lining around her brain. Her representative called the surgery a "fairly routine procedure."

Happy birthday Mary and many more to you.
