Katie Couric, Brooks Perlin break up after five years

Itinerant news anchor Katie Couric is single again after calling it quits with boyfriend of five years Brooks Perlin.

According to E! News the couple split because they "wanted different things" out of a relationship and felt it was time to move on. Couric, 54, and Perlin, 37, met in 2006 at a cancer research fundraiser. Couric's first husband, Jay Monahan, died of colon cancer in 1998. Couric's sister, Virginia state senator Emily Couric, died of pancreatic cancer in 2001.

Couric, according to Us Weekly, initiated the split.

"Brook's a nice guy, but it was inevitable because they had different priorities and perspectives, and their age difference made it a challenge, too."

Up until the split, reports E!, the couple had been living together on New York's Upper East Side.
