'Sweet Valley High': 'To the '80s what 'American Graffiti' was to the [early] '60s,' says Diablo Cody
It was announced back in March 2010 that "Juno" writer Diablo Cody was adapting popular '80s YA book series "Sweet Valley High" into a feature-length film. We haven't heard much about the movie since then, but don't lose hope, Wakefield fans. It's still an on-going project for Cody.Cody tells IndieWire, "['Sweet Valley High'] is moving forward. I need to talk to the producers and see how much I can say about it. It's closer to reality than ever but I can't freely talk about it."
"I want it to be wonderfully nostalgic," Cody continues. "I want it to be to the '80s what 'American Graffiti' was to the [early] '60s. I want it to be looking back on a really cool time and enjoying yourself and I want it to be glamorous and colorful and bubblegum and a feast for the senses. That's my plan."
We can hardly wait to see how it turns out. And may we please offer Leighton Meester as the perfect Lila Fowler?
