Ruben Studdard, Surata Zuri McCants file for divorce

Ruben Studdard, 33, winner of "American Idol" Season 2, has filed for divorce from his wife of three years, reports TMZ. The papers were filed in Alabama citing "irreconcilable differences."

Studdard and wife Surata Zuri McCants, 34, met in October 2006 when Studdard was signing CDs at a Wal-Mart in Atlanta. He asked her for her number and the two were married two years later. There were 20 groomsmen at his side when they married in 2008 in Birmingham, Ala.

A rep for Studdard tells AI.com, "Ruben Studdard and Zuri McCants Studdard have separated, and they are in the process of seeking a dissolution of their marriage. They each request the public respects their privacy during this trying time in their lives."
