Regis Philbin says goodbye to 'Live with Regis and Kelly'

regis-philbin-final-show-li.jpgRegis Philbin said goodbye to "Live with Regis and Kelly" Friday morning (Nov. 18) after over 28 years of doing the show from New York City. Lots of celebrity friends, including Donald Trump and former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford, were on hand to give Regis a send off.

Regis said of his time on the show, "I think I'm going out a pretty proud and happy guy. I wanted this show to be a show where people feel good about themselves. Look at life in a different way, in a better way ... We've always shared our life on this show ... you've got to entertain people with the story, you've got to make it funny. You've got to get something that happened and make it even funnier than it was."

There was a great montage of various celebrities doing their Regis impression, completely hilarious. There was a wonderful montage of fans holding up Regis signs. Current co-host Kelly Ripa gave a lovely goodbye speech that us in tears.

And Regis finally told the "honeymoon story," which turned out to be that on the night he and Joy were married, he thought they could drive hours and hours for their reservation at Pebble Beach in Carmel, Calif., but he misjudged the distance and they just had to pull over to a restaurant on the side of the road for their first night as a married couple.

Goodbye Regis! We'll miss you in the mornings. We hope if you missed the episode, you DVR'd it.
