'Immortals' tops weekend box office
Adam Sandler's gender-bending turn in "Jack and Jill" made $26 million at the weekend box office, according to Box Office Mojo, despite scathing reviews. Still, it was no match for "Immortals," the Henry Cavill-fronted action flick (co-starring Mickey Rourke, above) that raked in $32 million in ticket sales. The animated "Puss in Boots" came in third with $25.5 million, while Brett Ratner's all-star ensemble action-comedy "Tower Heist" was a distant fourth at $13.2 million.
Leonardo DiCaprio's turn as J. Edgar Hoover in the Clint Eastwood-directed "J. Edgar," which also opened this weekend, brought in a respectable $11.5 million.
Expect bigger returns next weekend (Nov. 18) when the next installment of the teen vampire saga, "Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" hits theaters.
