Hugh Laurie, Gary Oldman top 'Doctor Who' fan poll for titular role
IGN has conducted a fan poll for who should play the title role of "Doctor Who" in the David Yates-helmed big screen version of the popular television show that was recently announced. Hugh Laurie tops the list by a wide margin and hey, he's already a doctor on TV!The site writes of Laurie's credentials: "To turn Doctor Who into a global brand, filmmakers will no doubt want to cast a globally known actor, and as star of the phenomenally successful TV series House, Hugh Laurie is just that. Playing the cantankerous human doctor seems like good preparation to take on the eccentric alien Doctor, while anyone who has seen Laurie's early comedy work knows that he can effortlessly handle the Time Lord's more playful side. And if Laurie were to bag the role, what about casting his friend and former comedy partner Stephen Fry as The Master? Just a thought."
Hard to argue with that. The second runner-up is Gary Oldman, followed by Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Ewan McGregor.
