Heavy D funeral: Celebs come out to mourn the rapper's passing
The stars came out to honor the late rapper Heavy D at his funeral on Friday (Nov. 18).Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Samuel L. Jackson and Will Smith gathered at New York's Grace Baptist Church to pay their last respects to the hip hop legend. They were joined by Russell Simmons, Jada Pinkett Smith and Usher among other noted celebs according to Reuters.
Sean "Diddy" Combs gave the eulogy. He told fellow mourners about their past together, thanking the late rapper when he said, "(Heavy D) was the first person to believe in me."
Even President Obama offered his sympathies by sending a note to the late rapper's 11-year-old daughter, Xea Myers. The letter was read aloud by Reverend Al Sharpton.
In the note, Obama writes, "We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time. He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers."
A preliminary autopsy for Heavy D, who died Nov. 8, was inconclusive. A more thorough investigation into the cause of death will be released in a few weeks.
