George Harrison: Remembering the 'Quiet Beatle' 10 years after his death

Ten years ago, on Nov. 29, 2001, musician George Harrison died after battling lung cancer. He was 58 years old. Known as "The Quiet Beatle," Harrison stood in the shadow of bandmates John Lennon and Paul McCartney, though he was the group's lead guitarist.

Harrison did write some of the group's most memorable songs, including "Here Comes the Sun," "Something" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." He went on to have a long solo career after the Beatles broke up -- his most enduring solo work remains the song "My Sweet Lord."

He remains the only Beatle to have published an autobiography, 1980's "I Me Mine."

In Harrison's hometown of Liverpool, England, flags will fly at half-mast at the City Hall, reports the BBC. And two concerts will mark the anniversary of his death, including one at the storied Cavern Club, where the band got its start.
