Bubba Smith autopsy results: Weight-loss drug caused death

Bubba_Smith.jpgBubba Smith, NFL player, actor, and TV pitchman, passed away on August 3rd at the relatively young age of 66. The "Police Academy" star's autopsy results were released Wednesday Nov. 3 by the Los Angeles County Coroner's office.

He died of acute drug intoxication, with a few other contributing factors.

The Coroner's statement reveals that Smith's body contained high levels of the weight-loss drug phentermine, and he also had heart disease. The 6'-7" tall Smith had an enlarged heart -- weighing nearly twice that of an average human heart -- and 75% blockage of blood vessels.
