Box Office: 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn' has near record opening weekend of $140 million

twilight-bd-bella-hair.jpgVampiring is quite the lucrative business. "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" raked in an unbelievable $140 million during its opening weekend. This is the third highest opening weekend trailing only "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" ($169 million) and "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" ($142 million).

Coming in a distant second, and with a disappointing take of only $22 million, was the animated penguin film "Happy Feet Two." By way of comparison, "Happy Feet" collected nearly $42 million on its opening weekend.

Rounding out the top five were "Immortals" ($12.2 million), "Jack and Jill" ($12 million) and "Puss in Boots" ($10.7 million).

But the weekend was all about Bella and Edward. As if the $140 million domestic take wasn't enough, The Wrap is reporting it brought in an additional $144 million internationally.
