AMAs 2011: Katy Perry vs. Nicki Minaj -- who was prettier in pink?

How embarrassing.

First Katy Perry shows up on the American Music Awards red carpet with her tresses tinted a lovely shade of cotton candy pink, swept into a glam updo. Then, Nicki Minaj took the stage to open the show and -- surprise! -- her hair was dyed pink, too -- a lighter shade, but close enough to make us take note.

Perry's hair was the topper to a stunning gown -- we're not sure who designed it (we'll let you know when we know) but the Asian-inspired ivory silk that appeared to be flecked with Japanese calligraphy fit her to a tee.

Minaj's hair wasn't really the focus since within the first half hour of the show she'd both sported butt speakers and heels so high that she stumbled on her way to the podium to accept the award for best rap/hip-hop artist.
