Robert Downey Jr.: 'Forgive' Mel Gibson
Robert Downey Jr., who himself was given chance after chance in Hollywood despite a long battle with addiction, wants the entertainment industry to forgive Mel Gibson."I urge you to forgive my friend his trespasses," Downey said at Friday's American Cinematheque Award ceremony. "Allow him to pursue this art without shame."
Gibson was on hand to present the award to his friend at Downey's request, reports The Wrap.
The one-time film industry A-lister suffered devastating career setbacks after a 2006 DUI arrest in which he used racial slurs against the arresting officer. Then, earlier this year a series of threatening and somewhat racist phone calls to ex Oksana Grigorieva were released, which cost Gibson a role in "The Hangover 2."
