Richard Gere auctions off classic guitars, nets nearly $1 million

We would sell our guitar, but without it we can't play Rock Band for Playstation. Richard Gere, however, has a few to go around.
The "Pretty Woman" actor sold more than 100 guitars at a Christie's auction on Tuesday (Oct. 12) and netted $936,438. Gere will donate the process from the auction to various charities.
Headlining the lot was a 1960 Gibson Les Paul solid-body electric guitar that fetched $98,500. The bid was made by a private U.S. collector. The CF Martin & Co. Museum in Pennsylvania bought three guitars including a 1931 CF Martin.
Many of the instruments went above estimate, possibly because they were "unused the way...a coin or a stamp collector would collect," says Kenny Keane, a Christie's specialist.
