Jon Hamm was inches away from not being Don Draper

What if Jon Hamm had been hung out to dry and instead the role of Don Draper went to Thomas Jane?

That almost happened according to the "Mad Men" star. He tells WTF that his role as the dapper ad executive nearly went the "Hung" lead.

"I started, literally, on the very, very bottom -- I couldn't have had less heat on me," Hamm says. "Nobody knew who I was. The casting directors didn't know who I was. I wasn't on anybody's lists...The funny thing was, I think they went to Thomas Jane for it, and they were told that Thomas Jane does not do television."

Apparently Jane's policy has changed, and he's lucky it has. His role as a well-endowed male prostitute has earned him a Golden Globe nomination and the program is headed into its third season.
