'Cannonball Run' remake in the works; Is nothing sacred in Hollywood?

cannonball-run-fox.jpgIt's funny how these things work. Just the other day at the Zap2it offices we were discussing the idea of the next needless remake. The one that popped into our collective minds was "Cannonball Run." And if by fate, accident or corporate espionage, this may just be happening.

Vulture is reporting that the film appears to be in the works and Guy Ritchie has expressed interest in directing it. Another director who fancies the project is Shawn Levy of the robot boxing movie "Real Steel."

If that isn't all too weird, the government-owned GM (technically, 27 percent government owned) is considering financing part of the project. This will no doubt mean result in product placements of every remaining GM brand.

The first two "Cannonball Run" films, which came out in 1981 and 1984, earned a combined $100 million. They starred Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise and other big-named celebs in a race across America.

So, would you want to see a collection of once and former stars in "Cannonball Run 3" or would you rather watch...anything else?
