British singer Adele's bid to take over the world may be on indefinite hiatus. The big-voiced singer is canceling her upcoming U.S. tour due to a hemorrhage in her vocal cord.

Adele suffered from vocal cord issues earlier in the year and says she has no choice but to cancel the shows.

"Singing is literally my life...my love, my freedom and now my job. I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or I risk damaging my voice forever...My voice is weak and I need to build it back up. I'm gonna be starting up vocal rehab as soon as, and start building my over all stamina in my voice, body and mind. I will be back and I'm gonna smash the ball out of the park once I'm touring again."

Since breaking through in 2008, Adele has won Grammys, Brit Awards, and gone multi-platinum. She's also the first living artist to chart two top five hits in both the UK singles chart and albums chart since the Beatles in 1964. So speedy recovery, as the world really wants to see you do what you do live.
