Tony Bennett apologizes for 9/11 remarks

tony-bennett.jpgOn a Wednesday (Sept. 21) visit to "The View," Tony Bennett issued an apology for some remarks he made about 9/11 on Monday's Howard Stern show.

"I am sorry if my statement suggested anything other than an expression of my love for my country, my hope for humanity and my desire for peace throughout the world," said Bennett, reading from a prepared statement. "Nobody loves America more than I do."

Earlier this week, Bennett sat down to talk to Howard Stern about his new album of collaborations, "Duets II." But, as conversations are wont to do with Stern, the interview drifted way off topic. Stern asked Bennett what should be done to the terrorists who caused the 9/11 attacks and Bennett responded, saying, "But who are the terrorists?"

"Are we the terrorists or are they the terrorists?" he continued. "Two wrongs don't make a right. They flew the plane in, but we caused it. Because we were bombing them and they told us to stop."
