Lil Wayne leads BET Hip-Hop Awards nominations
Fresh off the release of "Tha Carter IV," Lil Wayne snagged a staggering 18 nominations when the contenders for the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards were announced on Thursday (Sept. 8). Among other things, Wayne is nominated for best live performer, best lyricist, track of the year, viewer's choice and MVP of the year. Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa each nabbed 9 nominations, while Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross tied for third most-nominated with 8 nods each.
The Rookie of the Year award nominees include Khalifa, Big Sean, Diggy Simmons, Big K.R.I.T. and two Odd Future members, Frank Ocean and Tyler the Creator.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Mike Epps will host the awards show, which will take place on Oct. 1, but not air on BET until Oct. 11.
