Lance Armstrong mobilizes New York flash mob for a jog

lance-armstrong-gi.jpgHe may no longer be competing in cycling's biggest races, but Lance Armstrong's ability to win (Twitter) friends and influence people (to exercise for a good cause) hasn't flagged one bit.

On Sunday (Sept. 18), the 7-time Tour de France winner tweeted out a general invitation for people to join him on a jog through New York's Central Park.

"Hey NYC! - how bout a 'Fight Like Hell' Twitter Run?," tweeted Armstrong on Friday. "Meet at Nike Town (57th St) @ 6pm this Sunday. 4-5 miles thru the city. #fightlikehell."

On Saturday, the cyclist updated the location: "Hey Livestrong NYC, change of plans 'Fight Like Hell' The Run now @ 59th & CPW (the Globe). Be there Sunday at 6. #fightlikehell."

And -- bam -- just like that, more than 100 people showed up to join Armstrong for the somewhat impromptu run, according to CBS News.

Armstrong continues to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. He battled -- and beat -- testicular cancer in the late 1990s.
