Facebook makes site changes, users miffed

zuckerberg-getty.jpgFacebook is never content to leave well enough alone.

The social media giant rolled out a series of changes to their 750 million users in recent days. These updates are seemingly targeted at their main rivals Twitter and Google +.

Some of the major upgrades include:

  • Posts can now be up to 5,000 characters. This is ten times the previous maximum length
  • In a Twitter-inspired feature, Facebook now has a real-time feed of friend's posts
  • Following the lead of Google+, Facebook now allows users to group their friends into different categories
  • Users can now post significantly larger photos

But as has happened before, Facebook changes result in Facebook backlash.

Perhaps the best comment about the changes came on Twitter from who said, "Facebook is like boys, Once you understand them, they change."

Unfortunately for this and ever other Facebook user, change will be the norm.

Brian Blau, Gartner Group's research director for consumer technology and services tells USA Today, "There's a lot of tit-for-tat going on in this emerging social war between Google and Facebook. There's been a bunch of news this week from Google+, and I expect more" at f8, Facebook's upcoming developers conference.

The more things change...the more they change.
