Diana Nyad takes another shot at Cuba-to-Florida swim

diana-nyad-getty.jpgIf at first you don't succeed at a 100-mile swim from Cuba to Florida, try again.

Diana Nyad, the 62-year-old distance swimmer, is taking another shot as crossing the Florida Straits with nothing but a Speedo and some goggles. Her attempt in Aug. was cut short after a asthma attack.

"Now I'm in better condition that I was in August, and I'm as prepared as ever... to achieve this dream," Nyad says at a press conference.

If Nyad completes the task, which many anticipate could take up to 60 hours, she will be the first to complete this without a shark cage. That feat was accomplished in 1997 by Australian swimmer Susie Maroney, who was a spry 22.

Nyad is expected to begin the journey at 6 p.m. ET on Friday (Sept. 23).
