Call James Bond; Golden Eye diamond up for auction

golden-eye-diamond.jpgWhen it comes to government-seized property, it's not only houses and cars that bargain hunters can get for a song.

The U.S. Marshals Service put a 43.5-carat flawless yellow diamond up for auction on Tuesday starting at a mere $900,000.

Considering the convicted money launderer/conspirator who owned the gem tried to sell it -- along with an estate formerly owned by Mike Tyson -- to an undercover FBI agent for $19.5 million and a boat, it seems like the jewel is going to go well under market value.

As of Tuesday (Sept. 6) afternoon, over 43,000 people had visited the auction, but only four bids had been submitted. Bidding is currently at $1.5 million but the reserve has yet to be met. The auction ends at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday. Additional minimum bidding is $110,000.
