Buddy Holly receives star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

On what would have been the legendary singer's 75th birthday (Sept. 7), Buddy Holly finally received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The musician, who recorded such hits as "Peggy Sue" and "That'll be the Day," was a driving influence in 1950s rock music. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was named #13 on Rolling Stone magazine's "Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time."

Holly was just 22 years old when he was killed in the same plane crash that took the life of Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. Their deaths were later called "The Day the Music Died" in the Don McLean song "American Pie."

The unveiling of the star was attended by his widow Maria Elena Santiago, Phil Everly from the Everly brothers and Gary Busey, who portrayed the singer in "The Buddy Holly Story."
