Teen Choice Awards 2011: Demi Lovato wins Inspire Award

Demi Lovato has had a roller coaster year, which seems to be the only thing anyone associates with her, but tonight she had a good night. She looked absolutely glowing on the Teen Choice Awards blue carpet as she reunited with Selena Gomez. However, it was inside that she was given a very special -- for the Teen Choice Awards -- honor.
Lovato received the Acuvue Inspire Award, but not before presenter Tyler Posey reminded the audience of Lovato's rather dramatic year (which included a stint in rehab to deal with "physical and emotional" issues). A little awkward. However, it was apparently Lovato's post-rehab initiative that earned her the award.
In addition to the Acuvue Inspire Award, she also recieved the award for Choice Summer Song for her recently released single, "Skyscraper," which is also, coincidentally, about her struggles.
She happily accepted the award (thanking Acuvue first and foremost) before reminding the audience that "love is louder."
Some have labeled the award Choice Pity Party similar to when Britney Spears was given the Ultimate Choice Award back in 2009 following her very public breakdown.
So was the award well-deserved? Or were the Teen Choice Awards just playing up Demi's personal problems for emotional effect?

she definitely deserved both awards. she is such an inspiration to millions of girls that she is probably saving from going through what she went through by telling her story
The difference between Britney Spears and Demi is that Demi IS being an inspiration by going around and spreading her story in hopes of helping other young people suffering through similar issues. She is being very open and brave about what happened to her.
She deserved both awards! She is amzing! And that song Skyscraper has personally helped me and I cannot see anyone else deserving the 2 awards than Demi does!
shes awesome, she deserved it.Well earned. The thing that is so sad is that SelenaGomez wasnt a good friend she left Demi Lovato the moment she needed her best friend by her side the most.
Whom are the "some" that label her wins as choice pity party? I disagree. She went through her struggles with anorexia/bulemia that resulted from being unhappy with her looks because she was bullied as a kid. She went and got help for her problems and I commend her for that. Now, she is trying to talk to others that may be going through what she went through to help them and cause awareness. She shouldn't even be compared to Britney Spears. Britney has never tried to help people after her breakdown and her stint in rehab. Plus, Demi is a way better singer than Britney. She deserved choice summer song.
The "writer" misspelled "received". I hope you're not getting paid for this article. How tired I am of trying to read articles online, only to be disgusted by the state of this nation's intelligence.
In regards to the story, Britney Spears didn't deserve anything. Demi Lovato, besides being an inspiration for young girls who think it cannot get better, is an actual performer with talent, as evidenced by her live performances. That's where a singer's mettle is tested, and Britney Spears fails every single time. (As does Selena Gomez, Kings of Leon, and Taylor Swift.)
This is a girl who deserves all the good things coming her way. She isn't going to be famous for her breakdown or for her recovery (like Taylor Swift, thanks to Kanye West), but because she's got more talent in her pinkie toe than half the over-paid "entertainers" out there today.
Demi looks gorgeous and she deserves the Inspired Award and the summer song award for Skyscraper since she is looked up to by millions of little girls around the world. I hope she keeps up with the good work with helping kids with their emotional and body image issues.
She does deserve the award. The comparison to Britney Spears is completely unwarranted. I thought it was stupid that the presenter straight up said, in front of everyone, that she has an eating disorder and depression. But as a person suffering from depression myself, I'm glad she's seeking help, fighting it, and helping others fight it.
