Princess Diana's memorial day: 14 years ago the world lost her

Aug. 31 marks the 14-year anniversary of Diana, Princess of Wales' tragic death in a car crash in Paris at the age of 36. Prince William was only 15 and Prince Harry was not quite 13 years old when they lost their mother.The accident also killed her companion Dodi Fayed, the heir to Harrod's, a chic London department store, and the driver of the car, Henri Paul. Photographers were chasing their car on motorcycles when the crash occurred, but Paul's intoxication and high rate of speed were later determined to be the primary cause of the accident. Diana and Dodi were also not wearing seat belts.
Princess Diana's funeral is estimated to have been watched by 2.5 billion people worldwide. We've included several pictures of here, including a 1995 trip to Calcutta, India where she met Mother Theresa and a lovely shot of the royal family.

Princess Diana is, was, and ever will be an idol and role model. At the time of her death, I happened to have the opportunity to watch the events of the week all unfold 24 hours a day What a terrible tragedy.
RIP Princess Diana
I was living in Sussex when Princess Diana died. My husband woke me up with the usual cuppa and gave me the news. I felt that I had lost one of my family such was the shock. I never met her but admired her greatly and the way she was bringing up her children. A sad loss to her family and the nation.
I was 23 years old at the time of her death. And there is something about her that I find so fascinating. She such a kind person, and one of a kind. You could somehow feel her kindness,and love.
After all these years, I miss her still!
Princess Diana's departure is a terrible tragedy. I can vision her smile,love and caring in her son's.
Heart strings are pulled,and Best Wishes for the family she loved.
I never met her, but I felt as if I knew her personally. I was always happy to hear news of her and the marvelous things she did with her life. I felt like I lost a very special friend when she died. We share the same middle name and that always made me feel special to know that I had that in common with a princess and such a wonderful person. I miss her still. God Bless her boys and her family.

Are the media going to do this every year for the next 50? It's long past time to move on. I'm sure her family members will pause to remember her today, but what is the relevance to the rest of us of a severely neurotic clotheshorse we never met, a recipient of unearned titles and privileges, whose charity work was vastly overestimated and who died primarily because of her own bad choices?
