Oprah, James Earl Jones to receive honorary Oscars

oprah-winfrey-james-earl-jones.jpgThe Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences awards honorary Oscars every year at the cinematic awards show and this year the honors will be bestowed upon Oprah Winfrey, James Earl Jones and make-up artist Dick Smith.

Oprah will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, given to an individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry, while James Earl Jones will receive the honorary Academy Award for lifetime achievement. Smith is also receiving a lifetime achievement award.

Neither Oprah nor Jones has ever won an Oscar. Oprah was nominated in 1985 for Best Supporting Actress for her work in "The Color Purple," while Jones was nominated in 1970 for Best Actor for "The Great White Hope."

Smith won an Oscar in 1984 for "Amadeus" and was nominated again in 1989 for "Dad." He has also won awards from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror films for his work on "The Exorcist," "Scanners" and "Altered States."

Congratulations to all of them on their awards.

People blame her for Obama's Failed Policies. All the Media Help and now an Oscar still can't get people to tune in to her Failed Channel.

I don't understand why Oprah is getting an Oscar. Other than The Color Purple 25 years ago she hasn't done anything in the film industry, regardless of her humanitarian efforts. She should be getting the Emmy equivalent of the award, not an Oscar. No complaints about James Earl Jones, though!

This makes James Earl Jones an EGOT, right? (like Liza and Barbra, with the honorary award)

I'm with Alex2 on this. I don't understand why Oprah is getting the award, unless there's nobody with a stronger connection to film worthy of getting recognized for humanitarian efforts (which would be really sad, if that's the case).

Good for Jones, though. His face may not be as recognizable as it should be, but his voice is iconic.

And kudos to the make-up artist who is also getting recognized.

Thats great news! Now if they would just give the Harry Potter series an honorary Oscar. You'd get a butload of ratings, just saying.

What next Obama get's an Oscar for getting a Nobel "Peace Prize" and then starting a War in Libya. Oh Wait...

Take Oprah off the list!! Kiss azz hollywood. Now her head will be as big as her azz!! She doesn't deserve it at all!!

i agree that whats up w/ the oscar for oprah?! the only6y thing i can think o0f she did alot for movies on her show. majority became hits that prob wouldnt have.
