New 'Footloose' trailer: Are you ready to cut loose?
A new trailer for the "Footloose" hit theaters and the Internet Friday (Aug. 12), and it confirms our suspicions that if the new movie isn't a shot-for-shot remake of the 1984 original, it's at least a very close approximation.
The current trailer is about 40 seconds shorter than the teaser released in June, and it's edited in a quicker, more trailer-y way. It also plays up the teenage-empowerment vibe a little more heavily than the June clip.
But if you happened to be old enough to have seen the first "Footloose" in a theater -- and we understand that's absolutely not the target audience this time around -- it's hard to see the new trailer and not start running down a checklist of scenes that were in the Kevin Bacon version. Heck, even the soundtrack will be filled with covers from the original.
"Footloose" is scheduled to open Oct. 14. What do you think of the new trailer?

Oh wow, I'm coming to grips that I was one of those who did see the original Footloose in theaters. And yet I'm kind of excited about the remake...that they honor the original story and yet take it a bit further, like showing the deadly car accident that led to the ban on dancing. I'm glad to see Dennis Quaid playing the Reverend, a likeable actor who can humanize the role of a man deeply damaged by the senseless death of his son, whose faith requires he find some tangible evil to blame for his loss. And in the end, he comes to realize the ugly path he has led his "flock" down, thanks to a rebellious teen who has the courage to challenge him and make him re-examine his values. That story was as important to the success of the original film as the soundtrack, and I hope it isn't lost on today's audiences. The one concern I have about the new trailer is the absence of ANY songs off the soundtrack. Shouldn't that be a major selling point here?
I actually just went to a test screening of this movie and it is something quite great. Definitely going to be a gun flick come October. PG-13 all the way, because I saw it unrated!
