Lil Wayne: Accident leaves rapper with 9 stitches, 'gnarly gash'

Lil Wayne seemed to take a nasty blow to the head over the weekend, but not so bad that he couldn't report on the mishap Monday (Aug. 22) morning.

The 28-year-old rapper, tweeting after a Sunday performance at suburban St. Louis' Verizon Amphitheatre, says he got a nasty cut while skateboarding.

"The Lou was good but I busted my ... head at the sk8park," he writes. "9 stitches! Gnarly gash over my left eye! Luv the people."

The AP reports Wayne, real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, and a large entourage showed up at the DePaul Health Center emergency room to treat the wound, though hospital spokespeople could not confirm on account of privacy laws.

Wayne's camp also remains quiet on the matter. 

"The Carter IV," Wayne's new album, sees its digital release after the Aug. 28 MTV Video Music Awards, where he is also set to perform at the show as well.
