Katy Perry makes Billboard chart history with fifth No. 1
Katy Perry is a force to be reckoned with! Her latest single, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," has become her fifth No. 1 song off her "Teenage Dream" album.
The song hit the top position on Billboard's Pop Song chart Monday (August 4), making her the only artist in the chart's almost 20 year history to accomplish such a feat. Her singles also make up for five out of the six most weekly radio plays ever.
Perry has had a monumental year. There is no denying that. In addition to her five No. 1s, she is also the only artist in history to be VMA-nominated for four separate videos in a single year and her movie debut in "The Smurfs" just barely missed the top of the box office.
If "Last Friday Night" reaches No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, she will join the likes of Michael Jackson who had five No. 1s on the Hot 100 from his album "Bad."
Seriously, can she be stopped?

did it reach number 1 or not? first you say as of monday it did then at end you say IF IT REACHES NUMBER 1, Whats the deal?
she hit #1 on the pop songs chart. hasn't yet on the billboard hot 100. she's just lucky she got hooked up with the right songwriters and producers.
I didn't understand that either Swally...but after I read it again I realized that she got her 5th #1 song on the POP charts..NOT on the Billboard Hot 100, which is a much better achievement.
The title of the article should say, "Perry breaks pop chart record."
THE CHARTS ARE SO DIFFERENT THAN THEY WERE IN 1988-89-- Michael Jackson - 1st single didn't even have a supporting music video. There was no POP CHART in 1988... I don't even think it compares .
Excuse me why isn't Paula Abdul mentioned in this!?!?! She was the 1st female to have 4 #1 singles from her hit cd Forever Your Girl!!! Katy passed her, so shouldn't Paula be mentioned!
for you information eh. She wrote Last Friday Night!
