John Mellencamp, Elaine Irwin finalize their divorce

Singer John Mellencamp is a single man again. Legally, anyway.

Mellencamp and Elaine Irwin, who were married for 18 years and have two teenage sons, finalized their divorce on Friday (Aug. 12), People reports. The settlement was amicable, and Mellencamp will pay child support and for the education of their two sons, 17-year-old Hud and 16-year-old Speck. He and Irwin will have joint custody of the boys, but they will live primarily with their mom.

The couple separated about a year ago, and Mellencamp filed for divorce in January, saying in court papers that the marriage was "irretrievably broken."

Mellencamp has since started dating Meg Ryan. He has said, however, that he'll continue to live in his home state of Indiana, near his two sons. It's the third divorce for the singer, who also has three kids from past relationships.
