Fox News: 'SpongeBob' being used to 'push over-the-top Green agenda'

Fox and Spongebob.jpgThe hosts of "Fox and Friends" are about to make one powerful animated enemy -- SpongeBob Squarepants.

The morning show on Fox News went after SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs and the rest of the undersea gang last week for partnering with the U.S. Department of Education on books and videos discussing the effects of global warming. Among other items, the materials offer advice on ways to cut carbon dioxide emissions, a leading cause of climate change, according to 32 national science academies.

This news was met with disappointment by show co-anchor Gretchen Carlson, saying the Department of Education "blamed man for global warming, but they did not tell kids that is actually a disputed fact."

Some scientists, including climatologist and Cato Institute senior fellow Patrick Michaels, believe climate change to be a naturally occurring phenomenon.

Steve Doocy, another "Fox and Friends" co-host, added to Carlson's comments stating, "Nickelodeon is pushing a global warming agenda."

Calls to Nickelodeon seeking comment were not returned.

This is not the first time "Fox and Friends" has raised eyebrows as it relates to global warming. In 2009 the show aired a graphic with results from a Rasmussen survey saying 59 percent of respondents believed it "Somewhat Likely" and 35 percent believed it "Very Likely" that scientists falsify global warming research, while only 26 percent believe it "Not Very Likely." The problem: That adds up to 120 percent, a statistical impossibility.

SpongeBob has sucked up his fair share of controversy as well. In 2005, Focus on the Family's Paul Batura suggested a video featuring the Nickelodeon character singing "We are Family" alongside people, muppets and other animated characters was "an insidious means by which the organization is manipulating and potentially brainwashing kids."

Wonder what Al Gore would say about the "Fox and Friends" broadside against Bikini Bottom.

Here's the video...

One thing I never understood about those who think that global warming is a myth, or falsified data or whatever: even if it isn't humans who are causing the earth's climate to get warmer, what would be the harm in teaching our kids to be careful and take care of our planet anyway? Regardless of it is scientific fact or not, there is no downside in teaching our children to be responsible and respectful to our environment.

It's Left Wing Propaganda. The Planet has always gone through cycles even before Man existed.

I love the fact she calls Spongebob 'hard to follow' what an idiot.

@ Jessica. Exactly, and also if it is a natural phenomenon, then we can't do anything about it and our planet will become virtually uninhabitable, possibly within a generation or two. If anything, claiming it's manmade and something we can at least try to reverse is the more hopeful option.

What's the harm if we are wrong about climate change? It's expensive to change now, but in the long term, there will be less pollution (we know this is man made and a bad thing), there will be more efficient, cheaper energy, less reliance on foreign oil, etc. Also, it's disputed like evolution is disputed, meaning that the vast majority of scientists say climate change is a real problem and a handful of bought scientists say it is not manmade and not a problem.

Have to agree with Jessica and Ed. So what if it is naturally occurring? We cut our water use, spew fewer pollutants into the air from our vehicles and factories, grow produce with fewer chemicals. It's all good whether it has any effect on global warming or not. We'll be healthier.
