Did Annie Lennox get ripped off by Gaga? Kelly Osbourne thinks so

Yes, it's true. Annie Lennox performed her hit "Sweet Dreams" in drag at the Grammy Awards in 1984, and her dark-haired male alter-ego vaguely resembled Lady Gaga's Jo Calderone (who vaguely resembled a lot of people). Kelly Osbourne commented on the similarities via Twitter, linking to a YouTube clip of Lennox's performance and posting, "I love lady gaga but I wish she would start giving credit where credit is due!"
While we do think Gaga is guilty of borrowing ideas -- "Born This Way" sounds a lot like old-school Madonna and it's hard to deny that Bette Midler did the mermaid-in-a-wheelchair bit better -- this one may be a bit of a stretch.
Women have been dressing in drag for centuries. Ms. Lennox wasn't asked to give credit to the millions who went before her, so should Gaga?

at least lennox looked clean and nice. gaga just looks dirty. then again. she looks dirty as a woman also.
I'd be shocked if very many of the little monsters knew or cared all that much who Annie Lennox is. (At this point, the same could almost be said of Madonna.) Almost all entertainment owes debts to previous artists and, as pointed out above, Lennox was not exactly the first person to ever dress in drag. Back in the day, did people demand Annie give credit to David Bowie? Gaga is a phenom at the moment and of course there are plenty who want to do nothing but tear her down. Like everyone else, her time will come and go and there will be the next new thing. Get a life, haters.

Obviouse ripp off if you were born before 1970. Annie's character was a staunch yet subdued support for a lifestyle in a time where the lines of acceptability were slow to cross. I found Gaga's Joe reminding me of a goofy rebelious teen trying to look tough that most folks just laugh at.
Annie Lennox got a lot of stick for turning up dressed in drag, back in the day. Americans were so anti-gay (and they thought she was a lesbian)that it caused a lot of controversy.
