If you win the Miss Mexico beauty pageant, you get to compete in Miss Universe. If you're the first runner-up you get to compete in Miss World. ... Unless you're Cynthia de la Vega.The 19-year-old runner-up has been stripped of her crown and will not be allowed to represent Mexico at Miss World in November. What's her transgression? Nude pics? Nope. Unpopular politics? Uh-uh. According to the Nuestra Belleza Mundo Mexico organizers, de la Vegas failed to meet "the recommendations and agreed upon targets for her preparation."
Translated? She didn't lose the six pounds that she packed on due to stress by the date they gave her.
De la Vega calls her treatment "an injustice" and says that she is healthy enough to represent Mexico, pointing out that she was not provided with a nutritionist or any other aids to lose the weight.

That is horrible. I feel so bad for her she probably tried so hard to get where she is and then to have her dream stripped is complete injustice.
when I first heard this story I didn't know how much of a weight gain they were talking about. I could understand their decision if she ballooned up, I mean it is a beauty pageant after all. But SIX freaking pounds??? That's just insane.

I was not allowed to re-enlist in the Army back in the '70s because I was 6 lbs over my regulation weight. The Colonel at the troop clinic advocated for my staying since I had lost over 25, but the Army was on a witch hunt. I saw good soldiers who were strong and fit booted out for such nonsense. My sympathies to this beautiful lady. Pagent officials, shame on you. Hope she sues. If not, give the finger to this pagent.
